What a clinic is for in a city with hospitals
Pattaya is not short of medical care. There are several private hospitals within a short drive, and
for anything serious that is exactly where you should be — we will send you there and call ahead.
What a hospital is not good at is the small, urgent, unglamorous thing at an inconvenient hour. A
graze that needs cleaning properly. A stomach that has emptied itself for six hours. An ear that will
not clear. A certificate needed before a flight tomorrow morning. Those do not need an emergency
department, and taking them there means a long wait behind genuine emergencies, at a much higher
price. That gap is what this clinic exists to fill.
Why the hours are the whole point
Hospital outpatient departments keep office hours. Pharmacies close. Most of what goes wrong on a
holiday does not: it goes wrong late, after a night out, on the last day before a flight, or at four
in the morning when a fever will not come down.
We are staffed every hour of every day, including public holidays. Nobody here minds being woken,
because being woken is the job.
A normal week here
The pattern is consistent enough to describe. Scooter injuries
above everything else — Pattaya’s traffic is heavy, the rental bikes are unfamiliar and helmets are
optional in practice. Exhaust burns on the right calf, which
almost every rider gets eventually and almost everybody underestimates.
Then sun: people who arrived pale and spent their first day on
Jomtien beach without shade. Stomachs, usually two or three days
in. A friend who has stopped making sense after a long
night. Fighters and hobbyists out of the Muay Thai gyms
with hands, shins and ribs. And a steady stream of people who need
a certificate or
paperwork for an insurer and have left it slightly too late.
Who comes through the door
Short-trip visitors, long-stay and retired residents, workers on the bars and in the gyms, divers
heading out to Koh Larn and the wrecks, and families staying up towards Naklua and Wong Amat.
Most arrive with no medical records, no Thai, and a reasonable wish to understand what is wrong and
what it costs before agreeing to anything. That is the ordinary case here, not the difficult one, and
the clinic is arranged around it rather than treating it as an exception.

- Same-visit blood tests, including dengue and full blood counts

- Certificates, fit-to-fly clearance and insurance paperwork
Costs, said out loud
You are told the price before treatment starts, not after. Payment is at the end of the visit, cash
or card, and you leave with an itemised receipt and an English medical report — the two documents
almost every travel insurer asks for.
If you are insured, say so at the start rather than the end. It changes what paperwork we produce
while you are still in the building, and chasing it from another country afterwards is far harder than
asking for it now.

When the answer is hospital rather than clinic
Call 1669 for chest pain, breathlessness at rest, stroke symptoms, a head injury
with vomiting or confusion, uncontrolled bleeding, a seizure, a near-drowning, or anybody who cannot be
roused. Those belong in an emergency department, and in Pattaya one is close — see
hospital transfer and referral. Calling early costs nothing and is
the single thing that most changes how these end.
