Medical Certificate in Pattaya
Certificates are one of the few things people need from a clinic while feeling perfectly well. Visa extensions, work permits, employers wanting proof of sick leave, dive schools, gyms, insurers. A medical certificate in Pattaya is usually issued the same visit — and what decides whether it is accepted is getting the right one in the first place.
What we issue
The ones actually asked for here, in rough order of frequency:
- Work permit medical certificates for Thai employment
- Visa extension certificates for immigration
- Sick leave certificates for employers
- Fit-to-fly certificates for airlines
- Fit-to-dive certificates for PADI and SSI courses
- Gym, fight camp and sports clearance
- General fitness letters for insurers and courses
Each has different content requirements and several have a specific form that must be used. Tell us which you need at the start of the visit rather than the end — the examination differs, and doing the wrong one means doing it twice.
Work permits and visa extensions
The Thai work permit certificate is a standard form covering a short list of conditions — the wording and the format matter more than the examination, and an unofficial letter on clinic paper will be rejected at the counter.
Immigration and the labour office both have their own expectations, and those expectations change. If your employer, agent or school has given you a specific form, bring it. A form supplied by the people who will accept it is always safer than a generic one.
Certificates for these purposes usually have a validity window — commonly thirty days from issue. Getting one months early is wasted effort, so time it to the appointment rather than to convenience.
Sick leave, and what an employer can reasonably ask
A sick note states that you were seen, on what date, and that you were unfit for work for a stated period. That is all it needs to say.
It does not need to name your diagnosis, and in most cases it should not. If your employer is insisting on a diagnosis, that is between you and them — we will write what is accurate and what you consent to, not whatever is demanded by a third party.
Backdating is the one thing we will not do. A certificate can state when your illness began by your account, but it cannot claim you were examined on a day you were not. That is a false document, and an employer who checks will find out.
Fit to dive
The dive schools running trips to Koh Larn and the wrecks will hand you a medical questionnaire, and a yes to anything on it sends you to a doctor before you can get in the water.
The examination covers heart, lungs, ears and your ability to equalise, plus a review of your history and medication. It takes about twenty minutes and the form goes back with you signed.
The genuine blocker is more often a blocked nose than any condition on the list — see dive medicals for the detail, including what happens if you have already dived and something did not feel right.
Fit to fly
Airlines ask in a narrower set of circumstances than people expect: recent surgery, a recent fracture in a cast, pregnancy beyond about twenty-eight weeks, a recent significant illness, or a visible injury that makes cabin crew uncertain.
A leg in a full cast is the one that regularly strands travellers, because many airlines require the cast to be split or a certain interval after the injury — see fit-to-fly certificates.
Find out what your specific airline requires before the day. Discovering it at the check-in desk with a boarding queue behind you is the worst possible time.
Gyms, fight camps and sports
Muay Thai camps, some gyms and organised events increasingly ask for a basic fitness certificate before they will take you, particularly for sparring or competing.
That is a straightforward examination — blood pressure, heart, lungs, a look at any current injuries and a review of your history. Where there is an existing injury, an honest certificate may state a restriction rather than blanket clearance, which is the point of having one.
If you are already carrying something, get it looked at rather than certified around — see Muay Thai and gym injuries.
What we will not write
We will not certify something we have not examined, backdate a certificate, or state a diagnosis we do not believe. Those are not administrative preferences; a medical certificate is a legal document, and a false one is worth nothing to the person relying on it.
We will also not certify fitness where it is genuinely absent. If you are not fit to fly, dive or train, the certificate says so — and that is the more useful answer, because the alternative is being turned away by somebody with more at stake than a form.
Within those limits, we will write clearly and in the format required, and we will say up front if we think a document will not be accepted.
What to bring
The specific form, if the school, employer or immigration office has given you one. That single item prevents most rejections.
Your passport, since certificates are usually issued against passport name and number and a mismatch causes problems later. Any medication you take, and details of any condition relevant to what is being certified.
And the deadline. If you need it tomorrow, say so now — most certificates are same-visit, but a few need a blood test or a chest film first, and that changes the timing.
Timing, cost and copies
Most certificates are issued during the visit. Where a test is needed first, allow a day.
You are told the cost before the examination. It is a small fee, and it is the same whether the answer turns out to be yes or no — you are paying for the assessment rather than for a particular conclusion.
Take a photograph of the certificate before you hand it over to anybody. Originals get submitted to immigration, sent to employers and lost, and a photograph has repeatedly turned out to be the only surviving copy. Keep the receipt too — see travel insurance claims.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a certificate the same day?
Usually yes, during the visit. Where a blood test or chest film is needed first, allow a day.
Do you issue Thai work permit certificates?
Yes. Bring the specific form if your employer or agent has given you one — it is always safer than a generic letter.
Will a sick note name my diagnosis?
Not unless you want it to. It states you were seen, the date, and that you were unfit for a period. That is normally all an employer needs.
Can you backdate a certificate to when I got ill?
No. It can record when symptoms began by your account, but it cannot claim you were examined on a day you were not.
What do I need to bring?
The specific form if you have one, your passport, and details of any medication or condition relevant to what is being certified.
How long is a certificate valid?
Often thirty days for visa and work permit purposes, so time it to the appointment rather than getting one early.
What if you decide I am not fit?
The certificate says so. That is the more useful answer than being turned away by somebody with more at stake than a form.
Do you charge if the answer is no?
Yes, the same fee — you are paying for the assessment, not for a particular conclusion.
Why a clinic rather than a hospital
English-speaking doctors on site, 24 hours a day. It is worth being straight about what that is for. Pattaya is not short of hospitals, and for anything serious that is where you should be — we will send you and ring ahead. What a hospital handles badly is the small urgent thing at an awkward hour: a wound that needs cleaning properly, a stomach that has emptied itself since midnight, a certificate needed before a morning flight. Those mean a long wait behind real emergencies, at several times the price. That gap, at every hour of the day, is what this clinic is for.
Beyond Pattaya, Doctor Pattaya Takecare Medical Clinic belongs to the Takecare Clinic group, which operates across Chon Buri, Phuket and Krabi. The practical value of that is continuity: if your treatment carries on after you leave, the next clinic already holds your notes, and a referral is a phone call between colleagues rather than a stack of paperwork you have to carry yourself.
Coming in
Doctor Pattaya Takecare Medical Clinic is 24 hours, every day, and that is the building being open with a doctor in it rather than a phone line that answers. No appointment is needed at any point, and there is no hour at which turning up is inconvenient for us. Walk in, or reach us on +66 81 668 5557 or WhatsApp. If you would rather not move, ask for a doctor hotel visit and we will come to you.
If it turns out this needs more than a clinic, that same conversation is where the referral and hospital transfer gets arranged — we stabilise you first, ring the receiving department so you are expected, and organise the ambulance rather than leaving you to find one. In this city that is a short drive at any hour, which is exactly why coming in early costs you nothing.
